I’m Melissa, a compassionate library leader and trainer focused on supporting and developing staff to create inclusive and safe libraries. I believe that public libraries are a reflection of our communities and all people are welcome. With a strengths-based approach I will work with you to develop strategies to strengthen your team and create spaces where all are welcome.
I have 20 years of leading, training, and supporting staff in a variety of environments. I have a bachelor’s degree in Criminology and 10+ years working in social services before joining the library world. I have worked directly with marginalized and vulnerable populations including survival based youth, youth and adults experiencing homelessness, and individuals involved in the criminal justice system.
My strengths include developing strong relationships and rapport with individuals. I use this skill to develop a holistic approach to managing library environments. I am skilled at working with both leadership and front line staff and value looking through a trauma informed lens when navigating humans whether that be your direct report, library patron, or local police officer responding to an incident. I value building strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
I look forward to working with you.
